Mr. Furtado’s practice focuses in the areas of Workers’ Compensation, civil litigation, and appellate practice. He handles a wide range of issues in these areas for both self-insured employers of all sizes, insurance carriers and third party administrators. This includes Workers’ Compensation matters from pre-trial to trial through appeals, as well as civil matters all the way through discovery to settlement or jury trial, appellate representation and Supreme Court briefing and oral argument. Mr. Furtado argued two of the only four workers’ compensation matters the RI Supreme Court heard over the last two years.

Mr. Furtado often speaks to business groups on Workers’ Compensation issues. Over the past year, this included out-of-state appearances in NH, MA, and ME before both insurers and third party administrators. He prepares an annual volume on workers’ compensation law & procedure and this is available for any of the firm’s clients.

He has drafted numerous pieces of legislation that have been enacted into law, including various small business tax credits, as well as enabling legislation for the Judicial Nominating Commission to ensure more highly qualified justices.
